Product News June 5-7
Hello to all our readers. Hope you are doing great. We are back with yet another issue of our blog. Let us plunge in and take a look at some of the parts for today:
Part No 15-124f5 is a knurled nut manufactured by the Eaton Corporation. Eaton is a large producer of electronic goods and equipment that have applications in the transportation industry, telecommunication industry, the automotive and mechanical industry as well as the aerospace, military and medicinal sectors. A knurled nut is also referred to as a thumbnut in industry jargon. It has a knurled outside surface rather than a hex that can be tightened by hand from the outside.
Part No 15-1258 is a receiver drier manufactured by ACDelco. ACDelco is an automotive parts manufacturer offering about 90,000 high quality parts and equipments engineered to perfection and produced in 37 product lines. It supplies automotive parts like batteries, filters, brakes, air-conditioning systems and ignition systems to several reputed vehicle manufacturers like General Motors.
A receiver/drier is also known as a filter/drier or a receiver/dehydrator. It resembles a small metal can and is used in air-conditioning systems that use expansion valves. They are usually either connected directly to the condenser or located in the high-pressure region between the condenser outlet and the expansion valve inlet. The receiver function of this device is to act as a temporary storage container for oil and refrigerants when neither of them is needed for system operations for example in period of low cooling demand. The receiver driers contain a filter mechanism that can trap debris and dust particles inside the AC system. The drier function of this device is to absorb moisture and water that may have accumulated inside the AC system during assembly, service or even manufacture. Driers contain a substance called desiccant that acts as a dehumidifier to remove moisture that infiltrates the AC components because of the humidity in the air.
Most receiver drier systems need to be replaced after a period of time as the debris gets stuck in the filter restricting the flow of oil and refrigerants and the desiccant loses its moisture absorbing capability by becoming saturated. Thus the demand for part number 15-1258 is quite high, driven by replacement needs.
